Elgin, Texas --- The Mary Christian Burleson Foundation of Elgin has received a $25,000 grant from the Texas Historical Commission, Preservation Trust Fund.  “We are honored to have been selected for this prestigious grant and are eager to begin the work of physical restoration of this site so rich in local and state history,” said Sue Beckwith, President of the Foundation.

The grant must be matched with $25,000 in local funds and the Foundation is holding a fundraising Gala on November 5 to raise funds. Tickets to the Gala are $185 for members and can be purchased at MaryChristianBurleson.org or by calling Sue Beckwith at 512-496-1244.  There are many other ways to contribute including buying a personalized brick to be used to pave pathways for $100.  Foundation memberships start at $25.

State Representative John Cyrier congratulated the Foundation on their hard work. “This unique project links Elgin's agricultural heritage with the  often untold stories of strong Texas women who were and are so important to our history”.

"I am so proud of our community’s support to preserve this precious part of Elgin’s history”, said Foundation Board member and former Elgin Mayor Marc Holm, “Funders always ask how much local support there is for a project and we would have not received this grant without the strong support of the people of Elgin."
